North Carolina area.
Located in North Carolina, the Outer
Banks is a 200 mile chain of unique barrier islands. The Outer Banks
islands are comprised of a narrow strip of land, bordered by the Atlantic Ocean
on the east side, Albemarle Sound on the west side and Pamlico Sound on the
south side.
One of the things that make the Outer
Banks of North Carolina so unusual is the vast contrast that exists
between the east ocean side and the west sound side. The development in the
Outer Banks perhaps parallels the differences in the bodies of water that
border these islands. While some properties of these two waters are identical,
(most notably they are both large bodies of water!), the properties of ocean
versus brackish water, and what kind of life each can support, still vary
dramatically from one another. The same can be said for the Outer
Banks.
The similarities between the Outer
Banks communities are not just that they are all islands. The entire region
has shown an admirable commitment to maintaining the natural landscape of the
area and a dedication to nature preservation that is hard to find in this
modern time.
No matter what your particular preference
is, the diversity that can be found in the Outer Banks means that there
is literally something for everyone. Some communities in the Outer Banks have
chosen to maintain the quiet appeal of the natural beauty with the most minimal
interference possible, while other communities have responded to the growing
tourist demand and provided a more commercial atmosphere to accommodate their
visitors.

Ocracoke Island Ocracoke
Island is located on the southernmost tip of the Outer Banks. Given that it is
only accessible via ferry, private boat or plane, Ocracoke Island is one of the
most remote islands in the entire Outer Banks. Perhaps that is part of what
makes the Ocracoke beach so alluring. In 2005 Ocracoke was ranked as the
second finest beach in all of America. Just this last year, 2007, Ocracoke
received even more prestigious recognition when it was voted the National
winner by Stephen Leatherman, a.k.a. Dr. Beach, author of Americas
Best Beaches".
Given that it is located in such a remote
area, Ocracoke Island has a surprising amount of cultural history.
Pirates have been a part of the islands history for centuries, the most famous
being Blackbeard. According to record, Blackbeard actually lost his life on
Ocracoke Island in 1718.
The Ocracoke Lighthouse beacon is one
of the oldest active lighthouse beacons in the nation. It is also shares the
dual title of being both the oldest and the shortest lighthouse beacon in all
of North Carolina.
Manteo and Roanoke Island
Manteo is located on the north central region of Roanoke Island,
part of the Outer Banks of North Carolina. Both Roanoke Island
and Manteo should need no introduction. In fact, there is arguably no better
known place in the United States. If you grew up in America and attended
school, you have already learned about Virginia Dare, the first English blooded
American, who was born on August 18, 1587 to the Roanoke Colony, which was the
first English colony to settle in America.
Perhaps better known as The Lost
Colony", the Roanoke Colony notoriously vanished without a trace and we still
do not know what happened or why. Historians have speculated for centuries as
to what actually happened, but the simple truth is that there are no adequate
facts that can back up any of these speculations and it looks therefore as
though we will never know what happened.
The Fort Raleigh National Historic Site
protects the location where this colony was first established and is also the
site where the annual outdoor drama, The Lost Colony" by Paul Greene, is
performed during the summer.
Nags Head One of the most
popular activities to do in the Outer Banks in fishing and the very best place
to fish in the Outer Banks is Nags Head. In fact, Nags Head has a
reputation of having the very best surf fishing in the world.
While visiting or, better yet, camping at
Nags Head, you will also be treated to some of the most beautiful
natural phenomenon you will ever see in your life. The daily sunrise in Nags
Head has a unique element that is created by the massive clouds that form
during the nighttime. Come morning these clouds appear to have created a
mountain in the sky and as the sun starts to break through these clouds, the
shapes of these clouds begin to constantly change and all of the colors of the
rainbow light up the sky. Nags Head sunsets also provide a breathtaking
show of color and light before the sun sinks back behind Pamlico
Sound.
There is another natural light phenomenon
that occurs in Nags Head called heat lightening. Unlike the sunrise and
sunset, it is unpredictable when heat lightening will occur. However, if you
are lucky enough to see heat lightening, chances are you will never forget it.
Heat lightening usually occurs late at night but is well worth the lost sleep.
Far out at sea, the sky begins to light up with continual lightening flashes
that outline the massive clouds and dark blue outline of ocean waves. It is
impossible to adequately describe the beauty of this occurrence. Just be sure
to plan your Outer Banks camping trips in Nags Head and hope that
Mother Nature cooperates that night.
Kill Devil Hills Are you
passionate about aviation? If so, then Kill Devil Hills should be your first
stop when visiting the Outer Banks. Kill Devil Hills was the
Wright Brothers site of choice while experimenting with aviation. On
December 17, 1903, atop the now famous 90 foot tall Kill Devil Hill sand dune,
Orville Wright made the very first successful flight in a vehicle that was
machine powered and heavier than air. In 1932 The Wright Brothers National
Memorial was dedicated as a monument to this historic flight. As a flying
enthusiast, you simply must come and witness this historical commemoration of
achievement.
Kitty Hawk Often mistaken as
the location for the Wright Brothers first flight, Kitty Hawk did indeed
play a role in this monumental day, if only a small one. It was in Kitty
Hawk that the Wright Brothers sent a telegraph to their father,
altering him of the success of their flight.
When visiting the Outer Banks, all
nature lovers will want to plan a trip to Kitty Hawk Woods. These woods are a
beautiful blend of maritime forest, marsh and deciduous swamp. Given the multi
environmental nature of these woods, many varieties of both plant and animal
life can be found in the Kitty Hawk Woods.
Southern Shores As one of the
most private sectors in the entire Outer Banks, Southern Shores
is a great example of a community that is dedicated to maintaining the
lifestyle that attracted its residents to the area in the first place.
Virtually everything in Southern Shores is privately owned homes and there is
no commercialization whatsoever. Beach access is also private, but visitors to
the area can enjoy the absolute peace and privacy of this community while
walking, jogging or biking along one of the paths that are open to the
public.
Duck North Carolina On the
north end of the Outer Banks lays the town of Duck. There has
only been a limited amount of commercialization in Duck, and this is often what
attracts people to the area. While you can still find great food and shopping
in Duck, the most likely reason to visit Duck is the quiet beaches.
Duck North Carolina got its name
because of the huge numbers of water fowl that frequent the area. Indeed, Duck
is actually a part of these birds migratory path. Hunters brought these birds
to the brink of extinction in the Outer Banks and as a result wildlife
protection laws were passed to protect the Duck birds. Due to the large variety
of birds and the protected lands that they now enjoy, bird watchers are often
attracted to Duck.
Corolla NC Home to the wild
horses of Corolla, this community has earned its reputation by providing a
safe haven for these descendants of the Spanish Mustangs who roamed the
Outer Banks for over 400 years. These magnificent creatures are perhaps
the most accurate representation of the Outer Banks spirit untamed and
rugged.
Numerous people travel to Corolla NC
in order to see the wild horses of Corolla because, despite their
protected status, visitors are allowed to watch and/or photograph these
beautiful creatures.
Outer Banks North Carolina is one of
the most beautiful and unique places you can choose to live or vacation in.

For Sale By Owner >Selling Tools
After a month of trying to sell your home "By Owner" you may decide to list it with a real estate agent. If you are in this position, you may begin to notice that your agent doesn't market the home the same way you did. You ran classified ads every weekend, but your agent has only advertised twice all month. Even so, there is a lot more interest and activity than you were able to generate on your own.
When your home is being marketed professionally, your real estate agent has many powerful selling tools that make it worth hiring someone who is experienced and competent. Some advantages to hiring an agent are the national and worldwide referral networks, the Multiple Listing Service, and the Internet. We advertise extensively in almost every media available including TV, which may bring in a call from the people who will buy your home. We work cooperatively with other brokers and share information about listings. Communication is the key to a real estates success. Agents use all of these tools to market their listings aggressively to get sales action!
